SOMETHING FROM THE VAULTS 3!!!!

Hey guys,

Sorry about the quiet few weeks. Too much work to get done, and in all honesty I'm feeling a little off my game right now, so I'm pulling an all nighter tonight to try and get back on track.

For now, here's a little something from 2005, in the horrible period where I had stopped working for Vertigo and was basically out of work for over a year. Out of around 30 editors I had wrote to for work, only around 3 or 4 had the courtesy to reply--one of which was DC's Michael Wright who graciously tried me out for two books--Justice League Unlimited and a new Batgirl series.

Unfortunately the plans for the proposed new Batgirl series fell through, but I got the JLU work! Some of my pencilled pages from that issue can be found at this earlier post.

So here's the few pages I came up with. It's a bit of a secret look at the "casting couch" of the comics world (but without having to take off my pants and pose with donkey). I'm still pretty happy with them, looking back. Though one thing that I'd change is that her thighs look a bit too big and manly on the last page....yeesh...

Really nice pages Leigh.
Shame it fell through, although, I think your gritty action packed style would work better for Batman himself!
I'm personally lookin' forward to seeing more Dredd from you, as well as the next Defoe of course!

Cheers buddy. Ahh it was for the best that it fell through, otherwise Defoe (for me) would never have happened.

Excellent stuff! i'm a bit of a Bat-freak so these are great to see, such a shame the strip didn't work out... on the other hand let's not think about Gallagher-less Defoe... that just wouldn't be right, y'know?

Cheers matey. Yeah the whole Gallagher-less Defoe is probably happening right now in a parallel universe...I pity that world...

Those sample look damn fine (especially that last one which has a tonne of energy and flows very well without the need for actual panels) and gives me The Fear - how long can it be before the Big Two come sniffing?

I pity the poor reader in that parallel universe!! At the same time I worry we might become them. Scary. I wonder if there is a way to send them a message so they can kidnap "other you" and get you to draw Defoe there? I will work on this idea. Not that I endorse the kidnapping of comics artists...

You can put the Fear back in your pants Emperor--I aint going anywhere. They can sniff away but I've little interest in working for the Big Two again.

I expect to have a written kidnap plan of at least 500 words delivered by the end of the day.

Will a ridiculously detailed one made from plasticine count?

I would actually prefer it.

I will put it in the post, I'm just trying to find enough of those polystyrene "peanuts" to pack it in.

I think you'll love it - I may have surpassed myself with plasticine kidnap plots this time I can tell you!!
