LEGO BIONICLE ORIGINAL ART FOR SALE!!!

Hellooooo again!

So for those that don't know, waaaay back through the mists of time, I was the 2008 artist (penciller/inker) for DC Comics/ LEGO BIONICLE comic series, based on the popular toy line. You can read all my earlier bloggy posts at the handy link here.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES!!!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, heroes in a half shell, TURTLE POWER!!!

God, I LOVE the new cartoon from Nicklodeon: Great funny script, gorgeous animation, impressive design, lovely voice acting, and my favourite of all, fantastic intro with updated theme tune!

My favourite Liverpool comic store, Worlds Apart, are actually lucky enough to be one of the first in the country to have the new toy line,and so are having a TMNT Day starting at 7.30am this Saturday, with all manner of cool Turtle stuff happening!!! (See the poster below)

So I thought I'd help them out with a turtle sketch (above) to add to their art display!

Maybe see you there. I'm gonna get me a Donatello....

THOUGHT BUBBLE 2012 WAS AWESOME!!!

Yup, you heard me: AWESOME!!!

Though you know what, it always is. Year after year the lovely Lisa Wood, Clark Burscough, Nabil Homsi, and the rest of the lovely Team TB put on a show that EVERYONE wants to go to. It really is one of the best comic cons out there, and still growing!

All the drawings you see here were pre ordered commissions. Think the Ghost Rider may have been my favourite!

Always great to see old friends at these events, just a shame that there's so many of us, we never seem to have enough quality time on a one to one basis. I won't try mentioning names, as I'll miss someone out and feel bad, but you all know who you amazing people are!

This time I only opted to do a signing slot with my fellow 2000AD droids, but that kept me plenty busy enough! Did a few sketches too, though I feel bad that my very first signing on Saturday, I forgot to offer the young lad and his mother a sketch (I signed 2 copies of 2000AD for you, and showed you a preview of Aquila), so if that was you please drop me a comment or email, and I'll mail you a sketch! (Probably best include proof it was you!)

The 2000AD panel (Al Ewing, Simon Davis, Simon Fraser, Rob Williams, Robbie Morrison, Lee Carter, Michael Molcher and myself) expertly hosted by Iz McCauliffe and Stacey Whittle was informative, completely inappropriate, and FUN! And they provided cakes, so from now on I demand that they host every panel from now on! Though I STILL didn't get a chance to tell my favourite story due to the panel running out of time!!!

Managed to get my copy of the fabulous Thought Bubble Anthology from Image Comics, in which I drew Ivan Brandon's story "I'M THROUGH!". The comic is a beautiful package, and I'm made up to hear it's been getting great reviews!

I managed to pick up a few books from some talented buddies, that I'll pimp very soon in a future post.

A brief shout out to the Comics Anonymous gang who I managed to squeeze in a charity "Sketch off" session, being called upon to draw the Joker as a cheerleader(?), and a quick hi to the MOMBCAST gang, with apologies again to Nick (Nick!Nick!) (in joke sorry).

Have to say, the big party in the gorgeous Corn Exchange building was epic! What a venue for a bash! And despite months of preparation, Geek Syndicate's Barry Nugent still kicked my bum in our dance off....next year Nuge, next year, you will bow to me....

COOL STUFF AT THE UPCOMING THOUGHT BUBBLE 2012!!!

Well it's that time again for one of the BEST comic conventions around, THOUGHT BUBBLE!!!! (17th-18th Nov)

Sorry to have missed it last year due to some good mates getting married, but this time the new wife and I shall be there for some fun!

I won't have a booth this time unfortunately, BUT I do have a signing slot for both days at the 2000AD signing station at 1.50-3.20pm, with fellow 2000AD artist Simon Davis!

So we'll be signing books, and I'll see if I can fit some quick head sketches in. I also plan on eating lots of biscuits to ensure that there's crumbs everywhere to annoy Frazer Irving and Robbie Morrison sitting there after us....heh, heh, heh...

Ivan Brandon wrote a lovely little story for me that I just managed to squeeze in before my wedding, and my buddy Simon Bowland lettered it. It's on sale from 14th November in all good comic shops as well as at the convention, with all profits going to the charity Barnardo's.

COMPLETELY different style from what you're used to with me, but I think it suits the tone of the story. Here's a little preview...

Congrats again Steve! What's great is that he's been a longtime 2000AD fan since 1978! I would've been only one years old then! Jeeeez......

So sometime next year he'll be drawn as either a zombie or a victim in Defoe, depending where Pat's script goes and where I can fit his likeness in best.

Hey guys, as a favour to a good buddy of mine, I've offered the raffle prize of having your likeness drawn into a future episode of 2000AD's Defoe AND you get to keep the original page! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be immortalised in 2000AD for the ridiculously low price of a £2.50 ticket!!!

The raffle is to raise money for O2's THINK BIG, a charity designed to hep young people's ideas become a reality.

Scott Turner is a nice chappy who has started the week long HERNE BAY HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL , a charity event for raising money for the KENT AIR AMBULANCE. He's gone above and beyond organising all manner of cool things like zombie workshops, the zombie ball,film night and the epic zombie crawl!

Theres a charity raffle that I know 2000AD have donated some books as prizes, I've donated a signed Defoe book, and Scott himself has donated the zombie sketch I drew him at a convention a couple of years back.

COMICS BULLETIN INTERVIEW!!!

Have you ever wanted to know what my favourite colour is, or if I prefer sunsets or sunrises? WELL TOUGH BOOBIES because I don't talk about any of that in this interview with Steve Morris for COMICS BULLETIN!!!

FAN MODEL OF AQUILA'S THE DEVOURER!!!

Here's a cool little thing.... 2000AD fan Mangamax also has a modelling blog with all manner of great creations. This time I'm honoured that he spent the time to make a model of Aquila's THE DEVOURER based on one of my early sketches!

MAKING OF THE 2000AD PROG 1797 BOUDICCA COVER!!!

Well now that the wedding's over I should have more time for the sexy, sexy blog!

Above is the 2000AD cover (featuring Aquila part 6) from a couple of weeks back when I was off on honeymoon.

I'll admit when The Mighty Tharg asked for a cover featuring Boudicca on her chariot, charging through Romans, my toned buttocks clenched. I knew it was going to be a tough muther bugger....

And so when  submitting roughs, I tried to get away with a closer composition with one of her horses just off camera so I didn't have to draw both, but he didn't fall for it and went with the second version...

Final pencils.

Inks. I started to feel ALOT better about it at this point, feeling it was coming together well.

As with the previous Aquila cover, I carried on with my experimentation of adding an ink wash...

Hiding the wash layer for a bit, I did the colour flats (still hate this part!)...

Shading then FINISHED! All the elements brought together below! Despite how I was dreading this at the start, I was pretty damn happy with it in the end. Especially when I saw it with all cover elements added.

SO....WE GOT MARRIED!!!!

....And it really was a perfect, incredible day! For those of you who liked the original proposal found here, this is the invitation we sent out..... :)

MAKING OF THE 2000AD PROG 1793 AQUILA COVER!!!

Ok, this sexy, sexy baby came out in stores yesterday! It's the second part of 2000AD'S AQUILA: BLOOD OF THE ICENI, also featuring my cover. Want to know how I made it? THEN STOP TOUCHING THAT FOR A MINUTE AND READ ON!!!!

I gave Tharg options, being in two minds about which to do myself. The first I liked because I knew it would be easy to do, but the second I knew would be worth the effort if I did it. So as you know, the boss picked the second option.

After taking manly reference photos of myself that you will not see because I'm just too damn buff for you, I did the pencils. I should add that at this point in time, I hadn't seen the script of what Aquila was wearing, so unfortunately you won't actually see him in this exact outfit in the story...

 Followed by inks (you know the drill by now)...

At this point I thought I'd start experimenting with my techniques, and so added an ink wash to the background to give my colour work some much needed texture...

Hiding that layer for a moment, I went onto flatting the colours. Now I love the opportunity to colour my own work, but the one thing I don't love is FLATTING. It's damn tedious and time consuming. If ever I get a chance to colour my own interiors, I'll be tempted to employ my own flatter.

Very nearly done....this was what I thought was the finished cover...until The Mighty Tharg thought that the light appearing from between Aquila's legs looking like a fart... neeeever thought I'd hear Tharg say that....

And so here is the FINAL version of the cover. I added a paper texture last minute, which also gave it a warmer shade that I quite liked. Pretty happy with this one!

The 2000AD design bots slam the logos and headlines on, as seen at the top of this post, and you can find it in all good stores NOW!

Right, now I gotta get back to drawing part 7!
